ياO شَبيهاone resembling بِالذيto the one who يَكdispels (first fragment)
يا شَبيها بِالذي يَك
شِفُdispels (final fragment) بِالنورِwith light الظَّلاماthe darkness
شِفُ بِالنورِ الظَّلاما
O you who resemble the one who
O you who dispels the darkness with light
dispels the darkness with light,
And who became a king and leader through beauty
والَّذيand the one who أصبَحَhas become بالthrough the
والَّذي أصبَحَ بال
حسنِbeauty مليكاًa king وإِماماand a leader
حسنِ مليكاً وإِماما
and who has become, through
Sleep peacefully however you wish
beauty, a king and a leader:
For my eyes will not sleep
نَمsleep هَنيئاًpeacefully كَيفَhow ماever شِئwish (first fragment)
نَم هَنيئاً كَيفَ ما شِئ
تَyou (verb ending) فَعَينيfor my eye لَنwill not تَناماsleep
تَ فَعَيني لَن تَناما
sleep peacefully, however you
O you with a pure heart that captivates
wish; for my eye will not sleep.
My heart that is lost in passion
ياO سَليمَuntroubled القلبِthe heart صَيmade (first fragment)
يا سَليمَ القلبِ صَي
يَرتَyou made (final fragment) فُؤادِيmy heart مُستَهاماmad with love
يَرتَ فُؤادِي مُستَهاما
O you whose heart is untroubled, you have
made my heart mad with love.
