تَyou (ending of 'you wronged') إلىto مُحبٍّa lover لُمتَهُyou reproached him
O you who reproach, you have indeed done wrong
O you who blame, I have indeed wronged
To a lover whom you reproached.
A lover, though mute he remained

سِيcompletion of 'endures' قلبُهُhis heart لرحمتَهُyou would have pitied him
Had you known what
Had you known what his heart concealed
His heart endures, you would have pitied him.
You would have shown him mercy
أوor لوif رَثيتَyou felt pity سألتَهُyou would have asked him
عَمَّاabout what بهِin him فَعلمتَهُand so you would have known it
Or had you felt pity, you would have asked him
Or had you asked what ailed his soul
About what ails him, and so learned of it,
And learned of his hidden pain

ءَcompletion of 'wronged' إليهِto him لمwhy أسقمتَهُyou made him ill

So that you would say to the one who wronged
You'd say to whom I've caused hurt
Him, 'Why have you made him ill?
"Do not torment or cause him bane"
أسقمتَهُyou made him ill وَبليتَهُand you afflicted him

You have made him ill and afflicted him;
Do not torment or cause him bane
What harm would there have been had you healed him?'
As you would, had you tried to heal
