يا دنِفَ القلبِ ما الذي شَغلك

يا دنِفَ القلبِ ما الذي شَغلك

لم تُعطِ ممن تحبهُ أملك

لم تُعطِ ممن تحبهُ أملك

O sick at heart, what has occupied you?

O heart that distracts you, what has preoccupied you

You have not been granted your wish by the one you love.

You did not give hope to the one you love

لا تشكُ طولَ الهوى إلى أحدٍ

لا تشكُ طولَ الهوى إلى أحدٍ

فإنه لم يزل عليكَ ولك

فإنه لم يزل عليكَ ولك

Do not complain to anyone of love's long duration,

Do not doubt the longevity of passion for anyone

For it has always been against you and for you.

For it has always been yours and for you

وَاشفع إلى وَجه مَن وهَبت وعذ

وَاشفع إلى وَجه مَن وهَبت وعذ

بهِ فما مثلُ وجههِ جذلك

بهِ فما مثلُ وجههِ جذلك

And plead before the face of the one to whom you gave [your heart], and seek refuge

And intercede on behalf of the face you were enchanted by

In it, for nothing has gladdened you like his face.

For there is no face like his that captivates you

وخلِّ من لامَ في ملامته

وخلِّ من لامَ في ملامته

فلو رأى ما رأيتَ ما عذَلك

فلو رأى ما رأيتَ ما عذَلك

And leave the one who reproaches you to his reproach,

And refrain from blaming the blameless one

For had he seen what you saw, he would not have blamed you.

If he saw what you saw, he would not blame you
