O night of union, I am forever grateful.

For everyone who gives thanks is rewarded with a visit.

Union restored to my eyes their light,

And they had grown accustomed to tears and sleeplessness.

If the night knew what the lover suffers when

The one he loved turns away, then it would grow shorter.

Or if the one who shunned him tasted a night like his,

Or some of what he suffered from him, he would not endure it.
