أياO سَقَميmy sickness منfrom النظرِthe gaze السقيمِlanguid
أيا سَقَمي من النظرِ السقيمِ
فطولُand the long duration of خضوعِsubmission قلبيmy heart للهمومِto sorrows
فطولُ خضوعِ قلبي للهمومِ
O my sickness from the languid gaze!
And my heart's long submission to sorrows!
وأنسَىand I forget بالبكاءthrough weeping مكانَthe place of دَمعيmy tears
وأنسَى بالبكاء مكانَ دَمعي
يُراقبُwatches لحظهhis glance الطرفِthe eye المَشومِill-omened
يُراقبُ لحظه الطرفِ المَشومِ
And through weeping I forget where my tears are.
The ill-omened eye watches his glance.
أياO وَجداًpassion يزيدُgrows علىwith التنائِيseparation
أيا وَجداً يزيدُ على التنائِي
أياO شَوقاًlonging إلىfor رَشأa gazelle fawn رَخيمِsoft-voiced
أيا شَوقاً إلى رَشأ رَخيمِ
O passion that grows with separation!
O longing for a soft-voiced gazelle fawn!
أياO ريقاًsaliva رقتهُcharmed it منكَof yours حُجبٌveils
أيا ريقاً رقتهُ منكَ حُجبٌ
ووَردةُand the rose خَدِّهِof his cheek صبغُthe hue of النعيمِbliss
ووَردةُ خَدِّهِ صبغُ النعيمِ
O saliva, charmed by veils of yours!
And the rose of his cheek is the hue of bliss.
