ياO ربِّmy Lord ماذاwhat جَنتhas inflicted عَينيmy eye علىupon بدَنيmy body
منof السقامِsickness فليتَso, if only العينَthe eye لمdid not تكنِexist
O Lord, what has my eye inflicted upon my body
O Lord, what have my eyes brought upon my body
Of sickness! Would that the eye had never existed.
Of sickness, if only the eyes had not existed
لمdid not تذهبِdepart النفسthe soul إلاexcept عندَat لحظتهاits glance
وحسبُهاand enough for it أنto ترىsee المملوكَthe slave يملكُنيpossesses me
My soul departed only at its glance,
The soul would not have gone except at its glance
And seeing the slave possess me is enough for it.
It is enough for it to see the owned possesses me
جسميmy body وَروحيَand my soul مقرونانِboth bound together فيin قرنٍa tether
موكَّلانِboth consigned بطولِto prolonged السقمِsickness والحَزنِand sorrow
My body and my soul are bound together in one tether,
My body and my soul tied in shackles
Consigned to prolonged sickness and sorrow,
Assigned with prolonged illness and grief

ياO ربِّmy Lord خُذexact redress لهماfor them both منfrom وجههِhis face الحَسَنِhandsome
Both lovesick for a full moon, wondrous in every part.
Enamored with a full moon that is all innovation
O Lord, exact redress for them both from his handsome face.
O Lord, take for them from His beautiful face
