I find no solace, and I remain

I can neither be submissive nor humiliated

abased and pleading.

Pleading and begging to no avail

كم إلى كم يذوبُ وج

داً ويعصي العَواذِلا

داً ويعصي العَواذِلا

How long, how long will it melt

How much more will my cheek melt away

with longing and defy the reproachers?

And disobey the consolers

قد تضرَّعتُ واستكَن

تُ فما نلت طائِلا

تُ فما نلت طائِلا

I have implored and humbled

I have implored and tried to be content

myself, yet gained nothing of worth.

But obtained nothing beneficial
