يا أملكَ الناسِ للقلوبِ

حسناً وأملاهم بطيبِ

O greatest master of hearts among people,

O you who possess people's hearts

through beauty, and richest in fragrance.

With goodness and fill them with benevolence

تشبهكَ الشمس حين تبدو

تشبهكَ الشمس حين تبدو

على قضيبٍ على كثيبِ

على قضيبٍ على كثيبِ

The sun resembles you when it appears

You resemble the sun when it rises

upon a branch atop a sand dune.

Over a wand over a dune

وأين شمسُ النهارِ ممن

وأين شمسُ النهارِ ممن

لم يطوهِ وحشةُ المغيبِ

لم يطوهِ وحشةُ المغيبِ

And what is the sun of day beside one

And where is the sun of the day compared to one

whom the loneliness of sunset has not enfolded?

Whom separation's desolation has not dissolved?

يا نفسُ كوني على رجاءٍ

يا نفسُ كوني على رجاءٍ

للوصلِ إذ أنت لم تذوبي

للوصلِ إذ أنت لم تذوبي

O soul, remain hopeful

O soul be hopeful

for union, since you have not melted away.

For reunion though you have not yet melted away
