Never has my eye fallen upon a sight

as beautiful as his face or his stature.

He to whose gaze wine is ascribed,

and to whose cheek the market traces its lineage.

His two eyes' power over my soul

is like the master's power over his slave.

And his beauty—never before him was there

beauty, nor will anything be beautiful after him.
