غايَتي من بينِ هذا البَشرِ

ومنىً لم أقض منهُ وطري

My ultimate aim among these people,

My goal from among these people

And my hope, through whom my desire remains unfulfilled,

And my wish that I have not fulfilled

مَن عليهِ لامني عاذلُه

مَن عليهِ لامني عاذلُه

وفؤادي لم يُبالِ سهري

وفؤادي لم يُبالِ سهري

Is he for whose sake his reprover blamed me,

The one who reproaches me for longing for him

While my heart paid no heed to my sleeplessness.

While my heart does not care for my sleeplessness

أخذَ الله بجسمي قلبهُ

أخذَ الله بجسمي قلبهُ

وبقلبٍ ليسَ يسلو بصري

وبقلبٍ ليسَ يسلو بصري

May God seize his heart in recompense for my body,

God has taken his body from me

And my sight for a heart that finds no solace.

And a heart that does not comfort my sight

ذهبا مني ورُدا كَمدا

ذهبا مني ورُدا كَمدا

وأراني منهما بالأثرِ

وأراني منهما بالأثرِ

They both left me and were returned as anguish,

He went away from me, gold and roses

And I see myself following in their wake.

And left me with only traces of them
