My sigh left my eye no tears,

and tasting no slumber is burden enough for it.

And I remained sick in body and heart,

    both love-stricken, weeping together,

because of a beloved whom I see growing haughtier

the more I grow abased and submissive.

His eyes fashioned in the heart, with a glance—

    languor’s arrow—a wondrous wound.
