My heart is pained by him,

My heart aches for him

and my eye weeps for him.

And my eyes weep for him

وقلبي بوجدٍ بهِ

وقلبي بوجدٍ بهِ

على هَجرهِ مُولعُ

على هَجرهِ مُولعُ

And my heart, longing for him,

And my heart is consumed with passion for him

is enamored despite his desertion.

For his abandonment afflicts me

وقد جُدتُ من ودِّهِ

وقد جُدتُ من ودِّهِ

له بالذي يمنَعُ

له بالذي يمنَعُ

And out of love for him, I have given freely

And though I exert myself for his love

to him what he withholds,

He denies me what I desire

على أنني اشتكي

على أنني اشتكي

هِ ما بي ولا يسمَعُ

هِ ما بي ولا يسمَعُ

though I complain

Yet still I complain to him

to him of what ails me, and he does not listen.

Of my suffering, though he does not hear
