لاdoes not تكفُّstop البكاءَweeping عينيmy eye فأقراso I may read
إنَّindeed بينbetween الكتابِthe letter والعينand the eye سِتراa veil
My eye will not stop weeping to let me read;
Do not cease your weeping, my eyes, so I may find solace
Indeed, a veil lies between the letter and the eye.
Between the book and the eye there is a veil
فأرانيso I find myself إذاwhen تأملتُI contemplate شطراًa half-line
كتبتhas written مقلتيmy eye بعينيَّwith my two eyes شطراa half-line
So I find, when I contemplate a half-line,
So I make my eyes write a verse
That my eye has written a half-line with my two eyes.
Whenever I contemplate a line
وكفاهاand it is enough for it بأنin that ترىit sees فيin كتابٍa letter
بمدادٍin ink سطراًa line وبالدمعِand in tears سطراa line
And it is enough for my eye to see in a letter
It suffices that in a book, with ink
A line in ink and a line in tears.
I write a line, and with tears, a line
أناI أمليI dictate حروفهُits letters ودموعيand my tears

I dictate its letters, while my tears
I dictate the letters, and my tears
Follow passion and soothe a breast.
Follow desire and heal my heart
