فالقلبُ أغراهُ بطولِ البُكا

فالقلبُ أغراهُ بطولِ البُكا

If the eye has wept its sorrow,

the heart has urged it to weep at length.

ولم يَزل يَكتم ما نالهُ

ولم يَزل يَكتم ما نالهُ

ولم يَدعهُ الشوقُ حتَّى شكا

ولم يَدعهُ الشوقُ حتَّى شكا

And it kept concealing what had befallen it,

but longing would not leave it until it complained.

يا مالكَ النفسِ بلحظاتهِ

يا مالكَ النفسِ بلحظاتهِ

ما هَكذا يفعلُ من ملِّكا

ما هَكذا يفعلُ من ملِّكا

O you whose glances possess the soul,

one granted mastery does not act this way.

أمسكَ عُذَّاليَ عن عذلِهِم

أمسكَ عُذَّاليَ عن عذلِهِم

لما توسلت إليهم بكا

لما توسلت إليهم بكا

My reproachers ceased their reproaches

when I appealed to them in your name.
