لئن لجَّ قلبُكَ في ذكرهِ

لئن لجَّ قلبُكَ في ذكرهِ

ولجَّ حبيبكَ في هجرِه

ولجَّ حبيبكَ في هجرِه

If indeed your heart persists in remembering him,

If your heart is immersed in reminiscing of him

and your beloved persists in his estrangement,

And your beloved is immersed in his estrangement

لقد أورثَ العينَ طول البُكى

لقد أورثَ العينَ طول البُكى

وعزَّ فؤادُكَ من صدرِه

وعزَّ فؤادُكَ من صدرِه

it has surely brought the eye prolonged weeping,

You have certainly bequeathed prolonged weeping to the eye

and your heart has gone missing from its breast.

And your heart feels excruciating pain because of his chest

فإن أذهبَ القلبَ وجدٌ بهِ

فإن أذهبَ القلبَ وجدٌ بهِ

فجسمُكَ لا شك في أثرِه

فجسمُكَ لا شك في أثرِه

So if passion for him carries the heart away,

So if grief takes away your heart undoubtedly

then your body will surely follow in its wake.

Your body will inevitably have its traces

وأيُّ محبٍّ تجافى الهوَى

وأيُّ محبٍّ تجافى الهوَى

بِطولِ التفكرِ لم يَبرِه

بِطولِ التفكرِ لم يَبرِه

And what lover who has shunned passion

And what lover has ever recovered from passion

has it not worn down through long reflection?

Through prolonged contemplation that did not heal it
