He passed the night without remembering me among those he remembered.

His eyes asleep, he consigned me to sleeplessness.

تاهَ لما أصبحت صورته

بالذي فيها إماماً للصور

He grew proud when his form became

Through what it held, a model for all forms.

طلعت حين بدا بدرُ الدجى

طلعت حين بدا بدرُ الدجى

فيراها الناس شمساً وقمر

فيراها الناس شمساً وقمر

It rose when the full moon of night appeared,

So people see it as both sun and moon.

ورأيتُ البدر يزدادُ بها

ورأيتُ البدر يزدادُ بها

بهجةً يعجب منها من نظر

بهجةً يعجب منها من نظر

And I saw the full moon grow through it

In splendor, at which all who gazed marveled.
