ومَريضِand languid طَرفٍeye ليسَdoes not يَصرفُturn طرفهُhis gaze
نحوَtoward امرئٍa man إلاexcept that رماهُhe struck him بحَتفهِwith his death
And one with languid eyes never turns his gaze
The languid gaze of one who never turns
Toward a man without striking him dead.
His eyes to anyone but in disdain,
قدindeed قلتُI said إذwhen أبصرتُهُI saw him مُتمايلاًswaying
والردفُand the buttocks يجذبُpull خَصرهُhis waist منfrom خلفهِbehind him
I said, when I saw him swaying,
I said, when I beheld him swaying slow,
While his buttocks tugged his waist from behind:
His hips tugged backward by the camel's train:
ياO منyou who يُسلِّمُsave خَصرَهُhis waist منfrom ردفهِhis buttocks
سلِّمsave فؤادَthe heart مُحبِّهِhis lover منfrom طَرفهِhis gaze
O you who save his waist from his buttocks,
"O you who yield your hips to come what may,
Save his lover’s heart from his gaze.
Yield your beloved's heart to love's sweet pain!"
