An apple I kissed,
The apple I kissed
out of longing, my heart sick with love.
Yearningly, my heart distraught,
شبهتُهاI likened it بخدِّto the cheek of منone whom
شبهتُها بخدِّ من

دمعي عليهِ يكف
I likened it to the cheek of one
I compared to a cheek
for whom my tears flow.
Wet with the tears I had wept.

Yet in apples there is no
Yet no lover's cheek was there
substitute for a beloved's cheek.
In that apple left behind.

Taking half of me away!
