متى تَظْهَرِ النّعْماءُ يَشْجَ بها العِدا

متى تَظْهَرِ النّعْماءُ يَشْجَ بها العِدا

وليس لها عِلْمٌ بِما أنت ساتِرُهْ

وليس لها عِلْمٌ بِما أنت ساتِرُهْ

Whenever prosperity appears, enemies are grieved by it,

When the blessings appear, the enemies stir with envy

And they have no knowledge of what you conceal.

Yet they know not what you conceal

ومن يُطِعِ اللّذَاتِ يَذْهَبُ بِوَفْرِهِ

ومن يُطِعِ اللّذَاتِ يَذْهَبُ بِوَفْرِهِ

بواطِنُ أوطارْ ويَخْتَلُّ ظَاهِرُهْ

بواطِنُ أوطارْ ويَخْتَلُّ ظَاهِرُهْ

And whoever yields to pleasures has his wealth carried off

Whoever indulges in pleasures will lose abundantly

By hidden desires, and his outward condition falls into disarray.
