لَمَّاwhen رَأَيْتُI saw النيُّورُوزَNowruz سُنَّتُهُits custom
لَمَّا رَأَيْتُ النيُّورُوزَ سُنَّتُهُ
صَبُّpouring مِيَاهٍwater وَشَبُّand kindling نِيْرَانِfires
صَبُّ مِيَاهٍ وَشَبُّ نِيْرَانِ
When I saw that Nowruz's custom was
When I saw Nowruz, its tradition
pouring water and kindling fires,
Pouring water and lighting fire
نَوْرَزْتُI celebrated Nowruz وَحْدِيby myself وَالشَّوْقُand longing يُقْلِقُنِيtroubles me
نَوْرَزْتُ وَحْدِي وَالشَّوْقُ يُقْلِقُنِي
بِنَارِwith the fire of قَلْبِيmy heart وَمَاءِand the water of أَجْفَانِيmy eyelids
بِنَارِ قَلْبِي وَمَاءِ أَجْفَانِي
I celebrated Nowruz alone, while longing troubled me,
I celebrated alone, and yearning disquiets me
with the fire of my heart and the water of my eyelids.
With the fire of my heart and the water of my eyelids
