مَا يَكْسِرُ الدَّفْتَرَ إِلاَّ الَّذِي

مَا يَكْسِرُ الدَّفْتَرَ إِلاَّ الَّذِي

يَرْغَبُ فِي قِيْمَةِ أَوْرَاقِهِ

يَرْغَبُ فِي قِيْمَةِ أَوْرَاقِهِ

No one breaks up a volume except one who

desires the price of its leaves,

أَوْ عَاجِزٌ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ نَسْخَهُ

أَوْ عَاجِزٌ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ نَسْخَهُ

فَضَاقَ عَنْ أُجْرَةِ وَرَّاقِهِ

فَضَاقَ عَنْ أُجْرَةِ وَرَّاقِهِ

or a helpless man who could not copy it

and could not afford his copyist’s fee.
