سَأَصْرِفُI shall turn عَنْكِaway from you يَاO دُنْيَايَmy world وَجْهِيmy face
وَأَبْغِضُand I loathe مِنْكَin you مَاwhat قَدْindeed كُنْتُI used to أَهْوَىlove
I shall turn my face away from you, O my world,
I will turn my face away from you, O life
and loathe what I once loved in you.
And hate what I had loved of you before
بَلَوْتُI tried مَشَارِبَاًdrinking places لَكِof yours مُتْرَعَاتٍbrimming
عَلَىin ظَمَإِthirst فَلَمْyet did not أَرَI see فِيْكِin you صَفْوَاclear water
I have tried your brimming drinking places,
I have tasted your waters in many a spring
while thirsty, yet found no clear water in you.
Thirsting, but found no sweetness there
