لا تُنْكِرَنَّ الشَّيَب أتْتَ جَنَيتَهُ

لا تُنْكِرَنَّ الشَّيَب أتْتَ جَنَيتَهُ

بِقَطِيعَةٍ وخيانةٍ وعِتَابِ

بِقَطِيعَةٍ وخيانةٍ وعِتَابِ

Do not scorn the gray hair—you brought it on,

Do not deny the gray hair that came

Through estrangement, betrayal, and reproach.

With estrangement, betrayal and reproach

لَوْ لَمْ تَرُعْني بالصُّدودِ وتارةً

لَوْ لَمْ تَرُعْني بالصُّدودِ وتارةً

بالبَيْنِ طَالَ تَمَتُّعي بِشَبابي

بالبَيْنِ طَالَ تَمَتُّعي بِشَبابي

Had you not alarmed me with rejection, and at times

Had you not repelled me at times

With separation, my enjoyment of my youth would have lasted long.

And at times with separation, I would have enjoyed more of my youth
