وَلَهَاand she has مِنَfrom الأَوْتَارِthe strings حِيْنَwhen تَجُسُّهَاshe touches them
وَلَهَا مِنَ الأَوْتَارِ حِيْنَ تَجُسُّهَا
إِذْنٌpermission عَلَىover حُجْبِthe veils of القُلُوبِthe hearts لَطِيْفُsubtle
إِذْنٌ عَلَى حُجْبِ القُلُوبِ لَطِيْفُ
And from the strings, when she touches them, she gains
A subtle license to pass the veils of hearts.
شَغَلَتْshe engrossed عُقُولَthe minds of السَّامِعِيْنَthe listeners فَكُلُّهَاso each of them
شَغَلَتْ عُقُولَ السَّامِعِيْنَ فَكُلُّهَا
مُصْغٍlistening attentively إِلَىto نَغَمَاتِهَاher melodies مَصْرُوفُturned
مُصْغٍ إِلَى نَغَمَاتِهَا مَصْرُوفُ
She has engrossed the listeners’ minds, so each
Listens intently, turned toward her melodies.
تَرِدُshe enters الجَوَانِحَthe breasts والعُقُولُwhile the minds شَوَاخِصٌstanding transfixed
تَرِدُ الجَوَانِحَ والعُقُولُ شَوَاخِصٌ
فِيْهَاwithin them فَتَقْعُدُthen she sits والعُقُولُwhile the minds وُقُوفُstanding
فِيْهَا فَتَقْعُدُ والعُقُولُ وُقُوفُ
She enters the breasts while minds stand transfixed;
Within them she sits, while the minds remain standing.
لَوْif كَانَwere مِنْof حَجَرٍstone فُؤَادُكَyour heart لَمْnot تَرُحْyou depart
لَوْ كَانَ مِنْ حَجَرٍ فُؤَادُكَ لَمْ تَرُحْ
إِلاَّexcept وَأَنْتَwhile you are بِحُبِّهَاwith love for her مَشْغُوفُconsumed
إِلاَّ وَأَنْتَ بِحُبِّهَا مَشْغُوفُ
Were your heart of stone, you would not depart
Without being consumed by love for her.
