ولاقَتْكَand may it befall you مُسْرعةًswiftly جائحهْa calamity
O Kafur, may you be disgraced as a servant,
A eunuch frowned upon by a servant
and may calamity swiftly befall you.
And assaulted by a raging tempest
فَلَمْfor ... not أَرَI have seen مِثْلَكَyour like ذاpossessing مَنْظَرٍan appearance
شبيهٍsimilar بِأَخْلاَقِهِto his character الفَاضِحَهْdisgraceful
For never have I seen your like, with an appearance
I have not seen anyone with an appearance
so like your disgraceful character.
Like his scandalous morals
حَكَيْتَyou resembled سَمِيَّكَyour namesake فيin بَرْدِهِits coldness
وأخطأَكَand eluded you اللّوْنُthe color والرائِحَهْand the fragrance
You resembled your namesake in its coldness,
You claimed to be of high breed in the cold
but its color and fragrance passed you by.
Yet your complexion and odor betrayed you
وَضَيَّعْتُand I squandered بِالجَهْلِthrough ignorance والأَفْنِand folly فِيْكَon you
And through ignorance and folly I squandered on you
And in ignorance and oblivion I wasted on you
eighty, sunk and lost.
Eighty withering, stray years
كأنْas though لمnot يَكُنْthere were ليfor me منany ناصحٍa male adviser
يُزَهِّدُturning me away فِيْكَfrom you ولاnor نَاصِحَهْa female adviser
As though I had no man to counsel me
As if I had no advisor
against you, nor any woman.
To make me abstain from you, no advisor
غُلاَمٌa boy تَكَامَلَbecame complete فِيْهِin him القَبِيْحُall that is vile
فَماso there is not فِيْهِin him منany خَلَّةْtrait صالِحَهْgood
A boy in whom all that is vile is perfected,
A youth in whom every vice was made perfect
so he has not a single good trait.
So not a single good quality was left in him
بَطئُslow الجَوَابِin answering فَكَمْso how many صَائِحٍa man shouting
بِهِto him لمnot يُجِبْهُhe answered him وَكَمْand how many صَائِحَهْa woman shouting
Slow to answer—how many a man has shouted
Slow to respond, so how many screeching calls
to him without reply, and how many a woman!
Did he not answer, how many screeches!
كثيرُmuch given to البُكَاءِweeping بلاwithout عِلّةٍa cause
فَدَمْعَتُهُso his tear أبداًalways سَافِحَهْstreaming
He weeps profusely without cause,
Crying often without reason
so his tears are forever streaming.
His tears kept always flowing

Whenever I say, “The stick has set him straight,”
If I said a stick had set him right
he brings us fresh and grievous troubles.
He would stir up grievous matters for us

Full-bellied, he labors to feed a stomach
Filled up and scrambling on a
quick to digest, while his backside shits.
Digesting, painful stomach
وكيفand how يُؤَمَّلُbe counted on مَنْone whose يَوْمُهُhis day
أَذَمُّmore blameworthy وَأَخْزَىand more disgraceful منthan البَارِحَهْlast night
And how can hope be placed in one whose day
And how can one have hope in someone
is more blameworthy and disgraceful than last night?
Whose day is more gloomy and disgraceful than yesterday
