Mizmar
غَرِيْباًa stranger نازِحَfar from الدَّارِhome
Love, O monastery of Mizmar,
O monastery of chanting, I love you
a stranger far from home.
A stranger displaced from home
فَقَدْfor indeed أَذْكَرْتَyou have reminded أَوْطانِيmy native lands
وَقَدْand indeed هَيَّجْتَyou have stirred أَوْطارِيmy longings
For you have reminded me of my native lands,
For you have reminded me of my homelands
and stirred my longings.
And awakened my innermost thoughts
تَجافانِيَhas shunned me مَنْthe one whom أَهْوَىI love
فَأْحشائِيso my entrails عَلَىupon النَّارِthe fire
The one I love has shunned me,
Those I love shun me
so my entrails are on fire.
And my insides burn
فَماso no لِيْfor me بَعْدَهُafter him أَنْسٌsolace
سِوَىexcept دَمْعِيmy tears وَتذْكارِيand my remembrance
So after him I have no solace
After them I find no comfort
save my tears and my remembrance.
Except my tears and remembrance
فَقالَthen said الدَّيُرthe monastery كَمْhow much تَشْكُوyou complain
لَقَدindeed أَحْرَقْتَyou have burned أَحْجارِيmy stones
Then the monastery said: How much you complain!
The monastery said, how do you complain
Indeed, you have burned my stones,
When you have scorched my stones?
وَقَدand indeed أَبْكَيْتَنِيyou have made me weep حُزْناًin sorrow
فَعَيْنِيso my eye ماؤُهَاits water جَارِflowing
and made me weep with sorrow,
You made me sorrowful and weep
so the water of my eye is flowing.
My eyes overflowing

So rise; let us complain to Musa—
Rise, and complain to Moses
may God guard him as a neighbor—
Whom God protected from harm
