Are you departing without having alighted at Manqabah,

And leaving Umm al-Fadl in the sacred precinct?

Golden-hued, perfume-stained—were she squeezed, she would yield

Perfume from flasks, and henna and katam.

What lies between her ankles and her elbow quivers

When she slowly makes to rise, then does not get up.

Like Umm Hakim, when she kept her bond with us,

And the cord joining us to her was strong, unsevered.

    وَلَوْ تَشاءُ شَفَتْ كَعْباً مِنَ السَّقَمِ

    A woman of Banu Amir—the heart went mad for her;

And if she wished, she would cure Ka'b of his sickness.

She is the crown of women, and her father the crown of his people,

People who discharge their oaths and fulfill their covenants.

I had seen no sun rise at night before her,

Until she shone forth to us on a night of darkness.
