I longed for Umm al-ʿAmr until I saw her.

I wished for it all my life until I saw her

Dazzling with her radiant reward, she captivates

ألا حبذا عيناكِ من متفلتٍ

ألا حبذا عيناكِ من متفلتٍ

وبردُ الثنايا منكِ حينَ تطيبُ

وبردُ الثنايا منكِ حينَ تطيبُ

Ah, how lovely your eyes are—so elusive!

Oh, blessed are your eyes that glance freely

And the coolness of your front teeth when they are sweet.

And the coolness of your cheeks when you smile
