فأسأَلِ النّاسَ لا أَبا لكَ عنَّا

فأسأَلِ النّاسَ لا أَبا لكَ عنَّا

يومَ سَالَتْ بالمُعلَمينَ كداءُ

يومَ سَالَتْ بالمُعلَمينَ كداءُ

So ask the people about us—may you have no father—

on the day Kadāʾ flowed with warriors bearing insignia.

وتداعَتْ خَشْبَاؤُها إذْ رَأيْنَا

وتداعَتْ خَشْبَاؤُها إذْ رَأيْنَا

واستخَفّتْ من خَوْفِنا الخَشْباءُ

واستخَفّتْ من خَوْفِنا الخَشْباءُ

And its craggy heights crumbled when we saw them,

and the craggy heights were shaken with fear of us.

ورأى مَا لَقِينَ مِنّا حِراءٌ

ورأى مَا لَقِينَ مِنّا حِراءٌ

فدَعَا ربَّه بأمنٍ حِراءُ

فدَعَا ربَّه بأمنٍ حِراءُ

And Ḥirāʾ saw what they had suffered at our hands,

so Ḥirāʾ called upon its Lord for safety.
