My eye wept, and rightly did it weep,

yet neither weeping nor wailing avails,

over God's lion, on the morning when they said:

    "Is that slain man Hamza?"

    هُنَاكَ وَقَدْ أُصِيبَ بهِ الرّسُولُ

    All Muslims were stricken by his loss;

there, the Messenger too was stricken by his loss.

O Abu Ya'la, for you the pillars were shattered,

and you are noble, righteous, and devoted to your kin.

May your Lord's peace be upon you in gardens

pervaded by bliss that never fades.

Hark, O noble clan of Hashim, be patient!

For all your deeds are good and beautiful.

    بأمْرِ اللهِ ينطقُ إذْ يَقُولُ

    God's Messenger is steadfastly patient and noble;

he speaks by God's command when he says:

Hark! Who will carry word from me to Lu'ayy?

For after today, a turn of fortune will come.

And what they knew and tasted before today

were our battles, through which burning thirst is quenched.

You have forgotten our blows at Badr's well,

on the morning swift death came upon you,

on the morning Abu Jahl lay slain,

and over him the birds hovered and wheeled.

And Utba and his son fell together,

and Shayba—the polished sword bit him.

And how we left Umayya sprawled out,

with a fine, supple spear in his chest.

And the heads of Rabi'a's sons—ask them:

for our swords bear notches from them.

Hark, O Hind, then weep; do not grow weary.

For you are distraught, tearful, and bereaved.

Hark, O Hind, show no gloating

over Hamza; truly, your might is abased.
