Turn aside; let us greet the ruins at Dhu al-Kuwayr,
Take the winding path to Dhik Alkuwayr at dusk
Whose courtyards have bidden their dwellers farewell,
Bidding farewell to the shelters as day turns to dusk

سَنَدَ العَروسِ وَقابَلَت مَهزولا
On the hills of al-ʿAthāʿith, where the hills faced
Among the bushes where the doe met her beloved
The slope of al-ʿArūs and stood opposite Mahzūl.
Supporting the bride as she faces her fate

And obliterating years passed over them, so they were clad,
The thornbushes grazed her as she passed through
After their lushness, in desolation, wasted away.
After elegance, now desolate and worn
