إِذَاif عَلَوْتَyou ascend إِلَىto عَرْشٍa throne عَلَىon حَرَجِdifficulty
فَسَوْفَthen will تَسْقُطْyou fall حَتْمًاinevitably دُونَwithout ماany دَرَجِsteps
If you ascend to a throne on precarious footing,
When you rise to a lofty throne uneasily
then you will surely fall without any steps.
You will surely fall without steps to descend
وَلَنْand will not يُعِيدَكَrestore you عُرْجٌlame people قَدْindeed عَلَوْتَyou rose بِهِمْthrough them
لاnot يَثْبُتُstands firm العَرْشُthe throne مَرْفوعًاraised عَلَىupon العَرَجِlameness
Nor will the lame, through whom you have risen, restore you;
No ladder that raised you will restore your place
the throne cannot stand firm when raised upon lameness.
A throne cannot stand high propped on props frail
لَمْdid not تَرْحَمِyou show mercy to النَّاسَthe people يَوْمًاever إِذْwhen حَكَمْتَهُمُyou ruled them
فَكَيْفَso how تَسْأَلُهُمْyou ask them عَوْنًاhelp إِلَىtoward الفَرَجِrelief ؟!
You never once showed the people mercy when you ruled them.
You showed the people no mercy when ruling
So how can you ask them for help to find relief?!
How ask for help when in peril you flail?
تَرَكْتَyou left فيin الْبَيْتِthe house ذِكْرًاa memory سَيِّئًاbad أَبَدًاforever
ورِيحَةًand a smell فَظَّةًharsh تَخْلُوis devoid مِنَof الأَرَجِfragrance ...
You left an everlasting ill memory in the house,
You left in the home an ill fame everlasting
and a harsh smell devoid of fragrance...
And a stench filled with foulness, devoid of perfume’s veil
خَبِّرْtell أَخاكَyour brother هُناhere عَمَّاabout what لَقِيتَyou endured فَمَاso no

Tell your brother here what you endured, so no
Tell your brother here what you faced, nothing
trace of embarrassment will remain upon you tomorrow!
Tomorrow remains that could cause you travail
