أَخْشَى عَلَيْكَ مِنَ الذُّؤْبانِ في الطُّرُقِ

أَخْشَى عَلَيْكَ مِنَ الذُّؤْبانِ في الطُّرُقِ

إِذا مَشَيْتَ وَحيدًا دُونَ ما رفَقِ

إِذا مَشَيْتَ وَحيدًا دُونَ ما رفَقِ

I fear for you because of the wolves on the roads,

I fear for you from the wolves on the roads

when you walk alone, without any companions.

When you walk alone, without companions

وكَمْ أَخافُ عَلَيْكَ البَحْرَ تَنْزِلُهُ

وكَمْ أَخافُ عَلَيْكَ البَحْرَ تَنْزِلُهُ

عَلَى خِلافٍ فَلا تَنْجُو مِنِ الغَرَقِ

عَلَى خِلافٍ فَلا تَنْجُو مِنِ الغَرَقِ

And how much I fear for you when you enter the sea,

And how much I fear the sea for you when you descend into it

in discord, and so fail to escape drowning.

Against the tide, you will not survive drowning

إِرْجِعْ لِأَهْلِكَ لا يُجْديكَ غَيْرُهُمُ ،

إِرْجِعْ لِأَهْلِكَ لا يُجْديكَ غَيْرُهُمُ ،

وغَيْرُ كِلْمَتِهِمْ حِبْرٌ عَلى وَرَقِ !

وغَيْرُ كِلْمَتِهِمْ حِبْرٌ عَلى وَرَقِ !

Return to your people; none but they can help you,

Return to your family, none can avail you but them

and any word but theirs is ink on paper!

And none's words but theirs are ink on paper

عِشْرونَ عامًا وكُلُّ النَّاسِ تَعْرِفُهُ :

عِشْرونَ عامًا وكُلُّ النَّاسِ تَعْرِفُهُ :

ما كانَ وَعْدٌ لَهُ يَدْنو مِنَ الصِّدِقِ !

ما كانَ وَعْدٌ لَهُ يَدْنو مِنَ الصِّدِقِ !

Twenty years, and everyone knows him:

Twenty years with all the people knowing him:

No promise of his ever came close to the truth!

He never had a promise that came near to truth!

فكَيْفَ يَصْدُقُ فِينا مَنْ يُفَرِّقُنا

فكَيْفَ يَصْدُقُ فِينا مَنْ يُفَرِّقُنا

ومَنْ عَلى دَمِنا يَعْتاشُ كَالعَلَقِ ؟!

ومَنْ عَلى دَمِنا يَعْتاشُ كَالعَلَقِ ؟!

How, then, can one who divides us be true to us,

How can he be truthful with us, he who divides us

and one who lives off our blood like a leech?!

And feeds on our blood like a leech?!

 الذِّئْبُ يا صاحِبي لا تَتَّخِذْهُ أَخًا

الذِّئْبُ يا صاحِبي لا تَتَّخِذْهُ أَخًا

وَدَعْهُ يَسْقُطُ ، مِمَّا كادَ ، في النَّفَقِ !

وَدَعْهُ يَسْقُطُ ، مِمَّا كادَ ، في النَّفَقِ !

The wolf, my friend—do not take him as a brother;

O my friend, do not befriend the wolf

and let him fall in the tunnel because of what he plotted!

Let him fall, from what he intended, in the burrow!

أَدْعوكَ بِاللهِ : لا تُبْدِلْ بِنا أَحَدًا

أَدْعوكَ بِاللهِ : لا تُبْدِلْ بِنا أَحَدًا

حَتَّى نَظَلَّ مَعًا يا طَيِّبَ الخُلُقِ !

حَتَّى نَظَلَّ مَعًا يا طَيِّبَ الخُلُقِ !

I implore you by God: do not replace us with anyone,

I implore you by God- do not replace us with anyone

so that we may remain together, O you of good character!

Until we remain together, O kindhearted one!
