O knight who left the battlefield

Defenseless after his departure—and the men, too.

Great is the calamity of your loss, O vanquisher of a mighty conqueror,

Who readies a battle for every calamity.

    Thought, delving deep, cannot attain

What you attain by intuition and improvisation.

The people recited when they saw you borne upon

Necks, bearing yourself proudly with dignity and majesty:

"Such are lofty deeds; let whoever would rise rise

    Thus, thus—or else, no... no!"

"A glory that butts the stars with its two horns,

And a might that shakes the mountains."
