أبا " مهند " لا آذتك نازلةٌ

أبا " مهند " لا آذتك نازلةٌ

ولا تخطت إلى عليائك العَلِلُ

ولا تخطت إلى عليائك العَلِلُ

O Abu Muhannad, may no calamity harm you,

O Abu Mahnad, no affliction has befallen you,

Nor may ailments reach your lofty stature.

Nor have defects climbed to your heights,

ولا خلت منك سوح الفضل عامرةً

ولا خلت منك سوح الفضل عامرةً

بها إذا غبت عنها ساعةً خلل

بها إذا غبت عنها ساعةً خلل

Nor may the flourishing courts of excellence be bereft of you;

Nor have the plains of virtue been devoid of you,

For if you leave them for an hour, gaps open within them.

Remaining inhabited when you are absent for an hour.

وظلت كالفجر ضوء منك منطلق

وظلت كالفجر ضوء منك منطلق

يهدي العصور، وهدى منك مقتبل

يهدي العصور، وهدى منك مقتبل

And may you remain like dawn: a light from you shines forth,

Your light has remained like the dawn,

Guiding the ages, and guidance from you is welcomed.

Guiding generations, your guidance is hoped for.

يا كاسي الجيلِ من أفضاله منناً

يا كاسي الجيلِ من أفضاله منناً

منها تتيه على أكتافه حلل

منها تتيه على أكتافه حلل

O you who clothe the generation in blessings from your bounty,

O you who have clothed generations with your favors,

Robes fashioned from them flaunt themselves upon its shoulders.

With which they wander upon their shoulders as robes.

وحاضن " اللغة الفصحى " وقد عبثت

وحاضن " اللغة الفصحى " وقد عبثت

بها الجهالةُ.. والأخطاءُ.. والزلل

بها الجهالةُ.. والأخطاءُ.. والزلل

And nurturer of the eloquent Arabic tongue, which has been tampered with

And embracing “the eloquent Arabic language” which

By ignorance, errors, and slips;

Ignorance, mistakes, and lapses have toyed with,

ومطلع الفكر في ظلمائها قبساً

ومطلع الفكر في ظلمائها قبساً

كما يحوّل روضاً يانعا طلل

كما يحوّل روضاً يانعا طلل

And you who bring forth thought as a flame in its darkness,

And the dawn of thought in its darkness is a flame,

As a ruin is transformed into a lush garden.

Just as the dew transforms a lush meadow.

يهنيك أن ربوع العلم تحتفل

يهنيك أن ربوع العلم تحتفل

بأن سلمت .. وسوح المجد تبتهل

بأن سلمت .. وسوح المجد تبتهل

May it gladden you that the realms of learning celebrate

It gladdens you that the fields of knowledge celebrate

Your safety, and the courts of glory pray fervently.

That you are safe, and the plains of glory plead.
