1. لله درُّكِ " طنجُ " من وطنٍ

    وقفَ الدلالُ عليه والغَنجُ

    How splendid a homeland you are, Tangier!

    Charm and coquetry have settled upon it.

  2. الليلُ عن جفنيكِ منطلِق

    والصبحُ عن نهديكِ منفرج

    Night issues from your eyelids,

    And dawn unfolds from your breasts.

  3. تتخالف الألوانُ في شفق

    ويلمها غسق فتنمزج

    Colors contrast in the twilight,

    And dusk gathers them, so they blend.

  4. مرجٌ من " البحرين " فوقهما

    ضوء النجوم يرِفُّ والسُّرُجُ

    A meadow of the two seas; above them

    Starlight flickers, and so do the lamps.

  5. تهفو الرمالُ إليه ناعمة

    والسفحُ والأمواج .. و " القبج "

    The soft sands yearn toward it,

    And the slope, the waves, and al-Qabj.

  6. صفتِ النفوس فلفّها مرحٌ

    يهفو بها، وتلاقت المُهَج

    Souls grew serene, so mirth enfolded them;

    It wafts them along, and hearts have met.

  7. فيدٌ على خَصرٍ، ولا رصد

    وفمٌ على ثغر، ولا حرج

    So a hand upon a waist, with no one watching,

    And a mouth upon lips, with no shame.

  8. وعلى العُيون من الأسى رهجُ

    وعلى الوجوه من الجوى وهج

    And on the eyes lies the dust of sorrow,

    And on the faces, the glow of anguished longing.

  9. تُغْفِينَ والأطيافُ حالمةٌ

    في كلّ مغنىً فيك تختلج

    You doze, while the dreaming phantoms

    Quiver in every dwelling within you.
