Praise be to God: I am under a young man's protection,
Praise be to God! I dwell beside a youth
a defender of honor, generous in help and formidable in harm.
Whose truth defending tongue is sharp and free,
لاnot يَرفَعُhe raises الطَرفَthe gaze إِلّاexcept عِندَat مَكرُمَةٍa noble deed

He does not lift his gaze except for a noble deed,
Who lifts his eyes but at some gracious act,
out of modesty, nor does he turn a blind eye to dishonor.
Through bashfulness, not hate, of infamy.
