    May God not banish—when I bade farewell to their land—

    My brother Baghid; but may someone other than him be far away.

    May God not banish him who gives lavish gifts, and who

    Bestows great gifts, never ceasing to give or becoming miserly.

    And one you find delighted to do good,

    When the blameworthy man's rock grows hard or smooth.

    إِن يُعطِكَ اليَومَ لا يَمنَعكَ ذاكَ غَدا

    I met him glad at heart, his fingertips moist with dew;

    If he gives to you today, he will not withhold it from you tomorrow.

    I surely lend him my affection and my support,

    And guard his honor, whether he is absent or present.
