    وَأَبا بَنيكِ فَساءَني في المَجلِسِ

    Indeed, I saw you among the women, and you displeased me;

and I saw your sons' father, who displeased me in the gathering.

Truly abased is he whose riding camels visit

Ibn Jahsh's clan in the cramped place of confinement.

They do not stand firm, and their women never cease

complaining of humiliation to the wretched, most wretched man.

Ibn Jahsh's clansmen are abased in adversity.

Their clothes are grease-stained; their spear-shaft has not been notched

by prolonged pressure in the straightener; and their neighbor

yields to injustice amid ravaging calamities.

May God disgrace a tribe that did not defend

their neighbor against Faqʿas on the day of al-Mujaymir.

They abandoned the women along with the steeds to a people

untamed in enmity amid raging wars.

Tell the sons of ʿAbs that their stock

is base, and that their father is like a monkey:

he grants a degrading concession, against his will, to whoever demands it

through oppression, after baring his teeth and scowling.
