جاوَرتُ آلَ مُقَلَّدٍ فَحَمِدتُهُم

جاوَرتُ آلَ مُقَلَّدٍ فَحَمِدتُهُم

إِذ لَيسَ كُلُّ أَخي جِوارٍ يَحمَدُ

إِذ لَيسَ كُلُّ أَخي جِوارٍ يَحمَدُ

I lived beside the clan of Muqallad and praised them,

I dwelt among the hypocrites and praised them,

for not every neighbor gives praise.

Since not every neighbor one dwells with is praiseworthy.

أَيّامَ مَن يُرِدِ الصَنيعَةِ يُصطَنَع

أَيّامَ مَن يُرِدِ الصَنيعَةِ يُصطَنَع

فينا وَمَن يُرِدِ الزَهادَةَ يَزهَدُ

فينا وَمَن يُرِدِ الزَهادَةَ يَزهَدُ

In days when whoever sought a favor was shown favor

Whoever desires to be treated well must act well toward us,

among us, and whoever sought abstinence abstained.

And whoever desires asceticism will act ascetic with us.
