Will trying benefit you, though old age comes
Or can your youth be sought after grey hair?
Or is your youth still desired after white hair?

Has a high-ranked woman addressed you
O dwelling of the tribe, may the downpours drench you!
O abode of the living, the wild cows have raided your pastures

I tasked the one who unties a salty, tightly-bound knot
how far from her are Kazimah and Malhub!
Alas! A tight knot made of salt

My heart has been orphaned until confusion increased it
by one who can be spoken to only while veiled.
He who is not addressed except while veiled

Cool water from the cold springs would have healed you
wine blended with the coolness of pure water.
Had its keeper not refused

As if the sun’s rays rise from the cheek
when the crowds' halt on the pebbled ground drew near.
When he drew near to the people of grit, driving away the cows

For the heart is a hostage, led beside the departing caravans.
For the heart is held hostage by blamers

The white domes of the cow-milkers appeared

We feared the eyes, some of the people startled

In sickness is our agony and torture

The vile and the liar fell—the liar exposed
