    Whenever she recalls Zayd, her tears well up

    with both eyes stricken, looking askance and gazing aloft.

    She mourns Zayd, and she has never seen his like—

    healthy, free of fever, and strong of rib.

    I console you for what you know, and indeed I see

    in your eyes a mote from Zayd that will not depart.

    وَإِن تَجمَحي تَلقَي لِجامَ الجَوامِحِ

    So if you are moderate, moderation is my nature;

    and if you bolt, you will find the bridle for unruly steeds.
