عَبيدُ العَصا لَم يَرجُ عِتقاً قَطينُها
Hear this: Taym belong only to Amr and Malik,
slaves of the rod; their retainers never hoped for freedom.

For Taym, the fertile soil has never been penetrated
by roots, nor have their branches grown leafy.

وَما غَضِبَت تَيمٌ عَلى مَن يُهينُها
Nor have Taym thanked any people for kindness,
nor have Taym grown angry at anyone who humiliates them.

And if you ask, O Taym, about yourselves, they will recount
tales whose truth disgraces you in Najd.

And if, O Taym, you seek renown by insulting us,
Taym have already been mentioned in terms that disgrace them.
أَلَمhave you not تَرَseen أَنَّthat اللُؤمَbaseness خُطَّwas inscribed كِتابُهُits record

Have you not seen that the record of baseness was inscribed
on Taym's noses when their eyes first opened?

Nor did Abraham, when he prayed in the House, pray
for Taym; nor is their clay from Adam's clay.

No woman of Taym has accepted a Muslim's faith;
rather, her faith follows the faith of Ibn Alghaz.

مِنَ الدَهرِ إِلّا اِزدادَ لُؤماً جَنينُها
No woman of Taym has carried a child for half a night
at any time without her unborn child growing baser.

Whenever a woman of Taym boasts at her departure,
her wrinkles seem like green leather bags of pitch.

And indeed, O Taym, buried baseness lies among you;
for Taym's buried store has now been stirred up.

And Taym's blood has not compensated, on their behalf,
for bloodshed; nor does their hostage make good a pledge.

Whenever Taym settle in a place upon the earth,
its plains and rugged ground complain of Taym's baseness.

Hear this: Taym—so expect no good from them—are only
a left hand afflicted with infirmity, and their right hand is paralyzed.

إِذا مُلِأَت بِالصَيفِ زُبداً عُيونُها
Taym's swords seem like stalks of asphodel,
when their eyes are filled with froth in summer.

And I was told that Taym were regretful, and it pleased me
that Taym felt regret and their expectations grew bleak.

Long has Taym's disgrace endured, without their inspiring fear,
and Taym keep their noses high, their eyes never gouged out.

My cavalry indeed defended Hawizah, after
she bellowed like an old she-camel whose fetus was dragged out.

Taym will learn whose numbers match the pebbles,
when war's kicking fury persists in biting.

And before me, from the two great clans, Amr and Malik,
are lions dwelling in the thickets, their lair defended.

long is their stay by the pools of the Sawad.

And if a Taymi thirsted, he would slit his mother's belly for its water,
when he saw the wasteland, its open expanses dust-gray.
