أَتَزورُdo you visit أُمَّthe mother of مُحَمَّدٍMuhammad أَمor تَهجُرُyou forsake
أَمor عادَreturned to قَلبَكَyour heart بَعضُsome of ماwhat تَتَذَكَّرُyou remember
Do you visit Umm Muhammad, or forsake her?
Do you visit the mother of Muhammad or do you shun her?
Or has some of what you remember returned to your heart?
Or has your heart regained some of what you remember?
إِنَّindeed الفَوادِرَthe large, aged ibex لَوif سَمِعنَthey heard كَلامَهاher words
Indeed, if the great, aged ibex heard her words,
If the virtuous were to hear her words
The ibex of ʿAmayatayn would keep descending.
The wailings of two blind women would flow.
لاdo not تَنسَforget حِلمَكَyour forbearance إِنَّindeed مالَكَwhat you have مَعهُمُwith them
قَدَرٌfate وَلَستَand you are not بِسابِقٍone who outstrips ماwhat يُقدَرُis decreed
Do not forget your forbearance: what you have with them
Do not forget your forbearance, for with them
Is destined, and you cannot outstrip what is decreed.
Is your destiny, and you are not ahead of what is destined.

Cares travelled by night with the stars, imposing
Cares traveled with the stars and tasked
Tasks laid upon the fleet, lean she-camels.
A pilgrim tasked by persistent insomnia.

They are the rescue when night travel grows terrifying,
They are the succor when journeys become difficult
And when the mighty lion blazes in the uplands.
And when sorrow blazes in the bosom.
أَجهَضنَthey miscarried مُعجَلَةًprematurely لِسِتَّةِat six أَشهُرٍmonths

They cast their young prematurely at six months,
They miscarried hastily at six months
Like chicks, their skins quivering.
Their skins peeling off like those of chicks.

Al-Baʿith claimed, 'I am Baybah's son.'
Al-Ba'ith said, "I am the son of Baybah of the Da'wah tribe."
Al-Baʿith lied, and his nose is peeling.
Al-Ba'ith lied, and his nose was flaking.
أَنتَyou البَعيثُal-Baʿith تَبينُis evident فيهِin him عُبودَةٌservitude

You are al-Baʿith, in whom servitude plainly shows,
You are Al-Ba'ith, in whom servitude is evident,
And your father is a slave of Banu Zurah—a coarse fool.
And your father is a slave of the Zuraah tribe of Baghthar.
