فَلاso may no حَمَلَتconceive بَعدَafter الفَرَزدَقِal-Farazdaq حُرَّةٌfreeborn woman
فَلا حَمَلَت بَعدَ الفَرَزدَقِ حُرَّةٌ
وَلاnor may ذاتُa woman with حَملٍpregnancy مِنfrom نَفاسٍchildbed تَعَلَّتِrecover
وَلا ذاتُ حَملٍ مِن نَفاسٍ تَعَلَّتِ
After al-Farazdaq, may no freeborn woman conceive,
May no freeborn woman conceive after al-Farazdaq,
nor any woman with child rise recovered from childbed.
nor may a pregnant woman recover from childbed.
هُوَhe الوافِدُthe envoy المَجبورُwhose needs are met وَالحامِلُand the burden-bearer الَّذيwho
هُوَ الوافِدُ المَجبورُ وَالحامِلُ الَّذي
إِذاwhen النَعلُthe sandal يَوماًone day بِالعَشيرَةِfor the tribe زَلَّتِslips
إِذا النَعلُ يَوماً بِالعَشيرَةِ زَلَّتِ
He was the envoy whose need was made good, and the bearer of burdens
He is the envoy whose needs are met, and the one who bears burdens
whenever, on any day, the tribe’s sandal slipped.
