سَيُبكي صَداً في قَبرِ سَلمى ابنِ جَندَلِ

سَيُبكي صَداً في قَبرِ سَلمى ابنِ جَندَلِ

نِكاحُ أَبي الدَهماءِ بِنتَ سَعيدِ

نِكاحُ أَبي الدَهماءِ بِنتَ سَعيدِ

A shade in the grave of Salma ibn Jandal will be made to weep

Sad will cry in the tomb of Salma son of Jundal

by Abu al-Dahma’s marriage to Saʿid’s daughter.

أَصابوا جَواداً لَم يَكُن في رِباطِهِم

They acquired a fine steed that was not in their stables,

They got a stallion that was not tethered by them

and Abu al-Dahma was no owner of fine steeds.

And Abu al-Dahma was not excellent

فَجاءَت بِهِ مِن ذي ضَواةٍ كَأَنَّهُ

فَجاءَت بِهِ مِن ذي ضَواةٍ كَأَنَّهُ

جَحافِلُ بَغلٍ في مُناخِ جُنودِ

جَحافِلُ بَغلٍ في مُناخِ جُنودِ

So she bore him by a man with a swelling, as though he were
