قِفي تَسلُ عَنكِ النَفسُ بِالخِطَّةِ الَّتي

قِفي تَسلُ عَنكِ النَفسُ بِالخِطَّةِ الَّتي

تُطيلينَ تَخويفي بِها وَوَعيدي

تُطيلينَ تَخويفي بِها وَوَعيدي

Halt; my soul will cease longing for you through the course of action

Stand still, may my soul find peace, from the threat

with which you keep frightening and threatening me.

With which you make me fear, and my chastisement.

فَقَد طالَما مِن غَيرِ شَكوى قَبيحَةٍ

فَقَد طالَما مِن غَيرِ شَكوى قَبيحَةٍ

رَضينا بِحُكمٍ مِنكِ غَيرِ سَديدِ

رَضينا بِحُكمٍ مِنكِ غَيرِ سَديدِ

For indeed, many a time, without an unseemly complaint,

For long, with no vile complaining, have we consented

we have accepted an unsound judgment from you.

To a judgment of yours, other than right.
