رُماةِ وَما يَحمِلنَ قَوساً وَلا نَبلا

Buthayna is of a kind who turn aside the hands of the

Buthaina is of a kind that makes archers' hands quiver

Archers, though they carry neither bow nor arrows.

Yet she carries no bow or arrows

وَلَكِنَّما يَظفَرنَ بِالصَيدِ كُلَّما

وَلَكِنَّما يَظفَرنَ بِالصَيدِ كُلَّما

جَلَونَ الثَنايا الغُرَّ وَالأَعيُنُ النُجلا

جَلَونَ الثَنايا الغُرَّ وَالأَعيُنُ النُجلا

Rather, they win their prey whenever

But she hunts down prey whenever

They reveal their gleaming front teeth and wide eyes.

She reveals dimples and eyes like a fawn's

يُخالِسنَ ميعاداً يُرَعنَ لِقَولِها

يُخالِسنَ ميعاداً يُرَعنَ لِقَولِها

إِذا نَطَقَت كانَت مَقالَتُها فَصلا

إِذا نَطَقَت كانَت مَقالَتُها فَصلا

They steal a rendezvous, awed by her words;

She keeps a tryst whose words they hasten to hear

When she speaks, her speech is decisive.

When she speaks, her speech is conclusive

يَرَينَ قَريباً بَيتَها وَهيَ لا تَرى

يَرَينَ قَريباً بَيتَها وَهيَ لا تَرى

سِوى بَيتِها بَيتاً قَريباً وَلا سَهلا

سِوى بَيتِها بَيتاً قَريباً وَلا سَهلا

They deem her house near, while she does not deem

They see her home as near, while she sees

Any house but her own near or easy to reach.

No home near hers, no plain or dale
