Ah, call to Buthayna’s grazing caravan,

that we may bid farewell despite separation’s great distance, and she bid farewell.

And urge the gathering of the riding camels, and bring near

    he-camels and she-camels, full-grown and not weakened.

I seek the Most Merciful’s protection for you from a life of misery,

and from ever aspiring to the unattainable.

If ever the sweat of an accursed man’s son trickles down

upon you, then die after that—or leave it be.

They grew weary, but I did not; nor was I bargaining

for Suʿda’s camels while they knelt on rough ground.

Ah, I see only Buthayna here,

for us, after this summer camp and spring abode.
