أَيَّ شَيءٍ رَأَيتَ أَعجَبَ مِن ذا

أَيَّ شَيءٍ رَأَيتَ أَعجَبَ مِن ذا

إِن تَفَكَّرتَ ساعَةً في الزَمانِ

إِن تَفَكَّرتَ ساعَةً في الزَمانِ

What have you seen more astonishing than this,

What thing have you seen more strange than this

if you ponder the times for a while?

If you ponder an hour on time

كُلُّ شَيءٍ مِنَ السُرورِ بِوَزنٍ

كُلُّ شَيءٍ مِنَ السُرورِ بِوَزنٍ

وَالبَلايَا تُكالُ بِالقُفزانِ

وَالبَلايَا تُكالُ بِالقُفزانِ

Every bit of joy is measured by weight,

All things of joy are by weight

while calamities are measured out in qafiz grain-measures.

And afflictions measured by leaps
